![]() Spread it Around Are you tired of being stuck with paying for everyone's lunch? Nobody seems to remember how much they owe you for those breakfast burritos. If you regularly share expenses at work or home, try the IOU.com system. Just put in the expenses and it will tally them up. Trust me, it's better than the hostile sticky note method. IOU Incentives Give your employees some choice when it comes to giving out incentives. Don't automatically assume that what you would like to have as a reward for outstanding performance is what they would want. Communicate with your team, and find out what will motivate them. Managing Travel Spending For some, a business trip is an excellent opportunity to spend company money and splurge like they couldn't on their own. They justify it by thinking they can't behave like this on their time because they're under paid. |

Keep your receipts, regardless of
whether you paid in cash or used the company credit card. When
you get home, carefully look over the receipts. Do you see any
cases of unnecessary spending? If not, then good job. You took
responsibility of your own affairs with your own money, and let
the company pay for what it should. If you do, then take a good
look at what the irregularities were and keep them in mind next
time. Even if you are resentful, and feel as though your company
deserves to be ripped off for the way it treats its employees,
do it for yourself. Know that you rose above your frustrations
and did what you knew was right.

Or maybe they think the company has
unlimited amounts of money. Besides, everyone does it, right?
For the rest of us, we have budgets we have to stick to, plus
we're committed to the people we work for, and we want to reward
them for allowing us to visit new places and meet new people.
![]() We have a responsibility to make the trip as enriching for our company as it is for us. |
![]() But many times we lose sight of how much we spend, especially in a foreign environment. We shell out money for things we wouldn't even need if we were back home. Whether or not your boss says something to you, we're all a little guilty of not keeping a tight reign on our finances. The key is to recognize that we're spending irresponsibly, and to find out why it's happening. In order to accomplish this goal, we must keep careful track of every company penny we spend. |
