File Sharing There's nothing wrong with downloading a few songs on your break, right? Your superiors might think otherwise, but what they don't know won't hurt them. A new version of Napster has been released for your pleasure. It makes an easy process even easier with more precise search criteria and bug fixes. Napster v. 2.0 b8 Freelance Consider hiring freelancers to work on your special projects. You can often find someone who specializes in the precise area in which you need help, and you won't have to waste your valuable employees on tasks they aren't completely qualified for. Where is June Cleaver? I have to confess that I am not a big fan of "housekeeping", i.e., the things that June Cleaver did to make sure surfaces in her home were clean, sparkly and germ-free for Wally and the Beav. And even though I'm just a wee bit tightly wound when it comes to keeping things in order, I'm happy to let the scrubbing and mopping go a lot longer than most people I know... well, let's just say that fiscal quarters come and go between dustings. |

Once you know what has to be done and how often it should be done,
assign the chores according to age and ability. You may want to
rotate the chores, but keep people's preferences in mind. In my
home, I hate dealing with cat litter and don't mind watering the
plants, Dave feels the opposite. So I always do the plants, he
always does the cat litter, and we both feel like we've got a
good deal.

In spite of this, I recognize that some housekeeping does need to get done for your home to be presentable and comfortable (especially when your parents, in-laws or boss are visiting) so here are some ideas about how to keep the housework from taking over your life. Do It On a Schedule The real key to housekeeping is to make a schedule, stick to it, and involve all the members of the household. Start by making a list of all the routine household chores that need to be performed daily, weekly or monthly. Ask your family for input here, and be flexible. You may have to give up mopping once a week in favor of once a month, or less. Everyone's home and personal standards are different, but here's a list to start you out: |
Vacuuming/sweeping
Cleaning the bathroom Picking up the house daily Laundry Dishes Making weekly menus Grocery shopping Cooking Garbage Recycling Watering plants Mowing the lawn or other yard work Changing the cat litter or otherwise attending to pets Cleaning old food out of the fridge Washing the car/Oil changes Mopping Dusting Cleaning the kitchen (countertops, stovetop, sink).
