Developing Punctuality In Your Employees
Apparently their values and work ethics do not include “coming to work on time" and you have an ingrained company culture of tardiness. Since this is the case, and what you propose is not going to be popular, you can't "motivate" with words alone.

This leaves you with the only two things we ever have – reward and punishment (or the carrot and the stick). The bifurcation point will be whether or not you have the authority to hire and fire.

Should You Market Your Services At A Trade Show?
Actually every time I go out, anywhere, I tend to get a client. That's what I learned as a fundraiser. GET OUT. Of course I had more staff and budget then, but I went to anything I could get into - chamber luncheons, non- profit banquets, plumbing trade shows, church anniversaries. Mix and mingle.

How To Create a Beautiful Work Day
How do you spend your business day? Do you plow through a dreary to-do list? Do you struggle through regular tasks that you've been doing day in and day out? What do you listen to while you're working? Silence? Soft rock? The Rolling Stones? Audioslave? May I suggest Tom Waits and Miles Davis during the quiet hours of 3:00 a.m.?

How To Develop Your Personal Authority
Lately, however, I have had some problems with young adults of the opposite sex who are, in my perception, very rude. They think it is their right to treat me like a television while I conduct a class: reading a paper when they feel bored, putting their feet up on the chair in front of them, eating full meals, coming 15 or 20 minutes tardy, returning from the break late, yawning loudly, and talking among themselves are all behaviors I have had to deal with.

How To Compete With Younger Job Applicants
Trouble is, I'm 52 years old and although I'm in good health I can't seem to compete with the younger applicants. I know I've got ten or fifteen good years to offer. How can I break through the age barrier to get to a new career? Would more schooling help? On a resume, how can I ease an employer's concerns about long term employability?.

Rebuilding Confidence After Job-Loss
I always considered myself to be someone who is supportive and sensitive to others' needs. I feel that I have a gift of 'being able to get on someone's wavelength' to understand where they are coming from. This was valuable when I worked in contract negotiations as well as in adapting my approach to different people as a Project Manager. People I have worked with have commented on and told me they appreciate this. Several have suggested that I would make a great manager.

How To Get Organized
I belong to a yahoogroup of coaches and right now the topic is how to get organized. One coach writes that he's using Outlook Express for his email and email address list, Time & Order for his address book, calendar, datebook and to-do list (synchronizing, he says, between PS and daytimer), and MindMappit for brainstorming/lists." Someone replies that they're an infj and to remember to focus on people and relationships. A third one replies they wouldn't want to be a 'type' and there's probably a name for that type, and she uses .etc."

Breaking The Cycle Of Employee Disrespect
I work many long hours/long days and am presently driving 130 miles RT to work. My Boss requires that I am at work by 0800MT in order to appease my staff (they do not know/nor care that I work 12-14 hours/day). I am used to flex-time and am trying desperately to adapt. Due to traffic, etc., there have been times I have been late but always call. My Boss is concerned about what my employees think or believe about my occasional tardiness.

Are Headhunters Calling You... Or Ignoring You?
In my former life as a recruiter (also affectionately referred to as “headhunter”) I received hundreds of resumes a week from all parts of the country. The statement that a person’s resume gets a 15 second read is not far from the truth. In fact, 15 seconds is a generous assumption. In reality, a resume must capture the recruiter’s attention in the first five seconds to avoid the round file.

The New Ergonomics: Good Health through Inconvenience
You spend your day at a computer workstation or executive desk. The furniture item fills up the corner of the room, holds your computer, fax/phone/copier, scanner, filing basket and a year's worth of office supplies. There's enough space left over to spread out a picnic lunch if you are so inclined. You settle comfortably into a big executive type chair on casters and get ready to call a few colleagues in for a meeting.

With the promise of economic turnaround on the horizon, you may be one of many people considering a career move.
