Today's InsideOffice has a great article by Kathy Paauw that illustrates this point perfectly. http://InsideOffice.com/2001/0411.html When you build a store on the Internet, your number one concern is this: How am I going to draw people to my store? How, among the millions of internet sites out there today, are potential customers going to find my one little site and buy from me? Instead of always focusing on what is at hand, we need to start looking at the broader range of what we want to accomplish. We have to actually see our careers as a work in progress that is leading to more options in the future. Then we must face the task of trying to figure out how to drive our work lives toward our long-term goals. You might find you need to start making yearly itineraries for yourself - Plans that will keep you on course throughout the year. Many of us make itineraries for the upcoming week, month, or financial period, but we fail to see our total accomplishments over an entire year until our boss is showing us a pie chart in January. All of the sudden, we see things that were not apparent to us before. Sometimes, we even realize that by meeting our short-term goals we did not achieve our year-long expectations. In order to avoid this, try to write down what you want to do before the year begins. This will let you shape your short duration planning toward your overall goals. As we all know, you can't predict the future despite your high confidence level. Keeping this in mind, attempt to leave your yearly itinerary as flexible as possible, and make sure to highlight the things that MUST be done. Work within this itinerary as much as you can as the year unfolds, but don't be afraid to change some of the details as you encounter new information and acquire valuable skills. ====================================================================== ====================================================================== Sign up for free newsletters: http://www.eZined.com/newsignup.html ====================================================================== --- ActivePro is an eZined.com publication --- http://www.eZined.com ======================================================================
