Personal Log
A journal could be the best tool in your personal improvement arsenal. Write a few things down every day. You don't need to write everything you do, and you don't have to fill an entire page. Just scribble a few thoughts on your daily experience. Review the journal frequently to learn more about yourself.
In order to avoid this, try to write down what you want to do before the year begins. This will let you shape your short duration planning toward your overall goals. As we all know, you can't predict the future despite your high confidence level. Keeping this in mind, attempt to leave your yearly itinerary as flexible as possible, and make sure to highlight the things that MUST be done. Work within this itinerary as much as you can as the year unfolds, but don't be afraid to change some of the details as you encounter new information and acquire valuable skills.

Inspiration

"We distinguish the excellent man from the common man by saying that the former is the one who makes great demands upon himself, and the latter who makes no demands on himself." --Jose Ortega y Gasset

Yearly Itineraries

As our career paths become set in stone, and our goals more constant, it becomes important to widen the range of our perspective. Instead of always focusing on what is at hand, we need to start looking at the broader range of what we want to accomplish. We have to actually see our careers as a work in progress that is leading to more options in the future. Then we must face the task of trying to figure out how to drive our work lives toward our long-term goals.
You might find you need to start making yearly itineraries for yourself - Plans that will keep you on course throughout the year. Many of us make itineraries for the upcoming week, month, or financial period, but we fail to see our total accomplishments over an entire year until our boss is showing us a pie chart in January. All of the sudden, we see things that were not apparent to us before. Sometimes, we even realize that by meeting our short-term goals we did not achieve our year-long expectations.
