Tell them what to do and they will surprise you with their ingenuity." --George S. Patton ====================================================================== 6) Role Playing Some people shine in the spotlight, but others find it terrifying. I've often found that the key to which way a person handles this kind of situation is how often they've faced stressful encounters before. Many of us perform just fine when we're left alone to do our work, but find the same work more difficult when we're the focus of everyone's attention. We feel as though they're evaluating our every move, and will harp on our every mistake. T he sad part about these fears is that they are very rational and generally very true. A tried and true way to perform better when put on the spot is to experience a given situation without the usual consequences. Many people suffer one awful mishap and never have the confidence to try again. Fear is a powerful force that has the ability to inhibit and hinder our lives. But how can we gain this valuable experience? The answer is role playing. I know, I know, you weren't a theater major for a reason. You feel uncomfortable trying to take on roles that you don't normally play in real life. You can imagine yourself and your spouse or friends sitting in your living room, acting out a situation, and you're already blushing. But let me tell you this, it's better to feel those emotions in the presence of loved ones than in an interview or a presentation. In your home these emotions are humorous. In a working environment these emotions could be very costly to your career. See your weaknesses before you get into the situation, and do your best to fix them. All we can do is give it our best shot, and that's what you'll be allowing yourself to do. ====================================================================== ====================================================================== Sign up for free newsletters: http://www.eZined.com/newsignup.html ====================================================================== --- ActivePro is an eZined.com publication --- http://www.eZined.com ======================================================================
