Handling Temporary Workers As most of us are painfully aware, most larger companies have figured out that they can save money by using temporary employees. Many of you might have even seen some of your co-workers lose their jobs due to the temp explosion. Since big companies are always attempting to cut corners in payroll, the influx of temporary workers is sure to continue increasing. Although this is sure to cause you extra stress and pile more work on your shoulders, please keep in mind that it is not the temp's fault. |

Always try to make the best of the situation.
Their presence is just as uncomfortable for them as it is
for you. Put yourself in their shoes. I think you'll find it
a little easier to incorporate them into your working environment.
Most important of all... Don't kill the temp!

Almost everyone is forced to engage in temporary work at some
point. They are just trying to make their way in the world like
the rest of us, and full-time jobs are not exactly easy to come
by. In order to put their foot in the door to the working world
they give up many the benefits and security that we take for
granted. Even though we know all of this, how do we keep
ourselves from being at least a little bitter when we have
to deal with temps?
|
![]() The key is to always think about temps as people. I know this sounds silly, but it's easy to fall into the mental trap of considering them as mere inconveniences. Respect them as you would your regular co-workers. Even go out of your way to make them feel at home, and help them do the job as well as they possibly can. |
